Double Coupon Day at Ridley's

It was just announced on Facebook that today is double coupon day at Ridley's. I have seen this happen once before a few months ago.

Want to be in the know? Just like the Ridley's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ridleysmarket?fref=nf

The last time this happened, I called our local Ridley's and confirmed with a manager that they were participating in the Facebook double coupon day. Then, when I went to the store and proceeded to checkout with my items, I just mentioned to the cashier, "I saw it was double coupon day at Ridley's on Facebook today only and I spoke to an manager here at the store to confirm that you guys are participating so I wanted to get my double coupons if I could..." and the cashier was super nice and rang up all my coupons twice. It was awesome! (Just keep in mind that they only double coupons up to a $1 in total value. So a $0.25 coupon becomes $0.50, and a $0.50 coupon becomes $1, but a $0.75 coupon will only become a $1, and $1+ coupons gain no additional value.)

However, I also had a friend who went in and mentioned, "Is it double coupon day?" and the cashier said, "No, we don't do double coupons anymore." She didn't mention the fact that it was a Facebook promotion and she didn't speak to a manager so she didn't get the deals...

Bottom line: Don't be afraid to speak up. If you are specifically making a trip to the store JUST to take advantage of double coupons, it pays to call in advance and confirm the deals. Then, at check out, don't be afraid to speak-up and ask for your double coupons. Some cashiers just might simply not be aware of the Facebook promo.

Happy Shopping!

What Should You Pay- Part 2

To go along perfectly with my last post, here is a list of what you should pay by the site Passion For Savings:

http://www.passionforsavings.com/content/uploads/2012/04/PFS_stockup_worksheet1.pdf

I was happy to see that several of my prices lined up exactly with the prices listed on this worksheet (except chicken... gees! How long has it been since boneless skinless chicken breasts were under $2 a pound for their "normal" price?... Not here!). I hope you find this helpful to know when to stock-up!

What Should You Pay?

As I have done more and more couponing, I have created a mental list of what are acceptable prices to pay for certain items. This list is continually expanding and changing, but I thought it would help provide some valuable insight to someone who is thinking, "Is this a good deal? Should I use my coupon now or save it for later?" Keep in mind, this is just my personal opinion, but I can usually find these prices often enough that I wait for them, and I find them across all brand names of a specific product. I will keep adding more to the list as I think of them.

Toothpaste $0.50, often $0.25-free
Deodorant $1-free
Shampoo and Conditioner $1, often $0.50
Body Wash $1-free
Laundry Soap, small bottles liquid, $2.99, often $1.99

Grapes, red or green seedless less than $1 a pound
Apples less than $1 a pound
Chicken - boneless skinless less than $2 a pound ($1.80)
Beef - ground $2.50 a pound
Beef- New York Strip steak $5.99 or less a pound
Produce $10 Fill it Fresh bag

Crackers $1.50 a box or less (often closer to $1)
Potato Chips $2 a bag or less (often $1.50 for Cheetos or Fritos)
Cereal $1.50-$1 a box (smaller boxes)

Hamburger Helper under $1 a box, often less than $0.75
Suddenly Salad under $1 a box, often less than $0.75
Pasta Sauce under $1 but usually more than $0.50 a can/jar
Pasta $0.50-free

Capri Sun $1.50-$1 a box
Coke 6 pk 1/2 liter bottles $2
Apple Juice 64 oz $1 (harder to find, but still possible)
Powerade, Gatorade 32 oz $0.50

Ice Cream 48 oz $2

What are some of your rules of thumb on stock-up prices? I'd love to know.

Deal Brag

Wowsy, wowsy, wow-wow... What a week for sales! I just got back from my weekend grocery trip and it sure was a lot of fun. I did forget that it was Peach Days in Brigham City, and Smith's is RIGHT by the Peach Days festivities, so their parking lot was PACKED... and I am sure that a fair majority of the cars in the lot were not there for Smith's. I will try to remember that for next fall.

Here is my haul:

Here is the case lot items I got, nicely displayed on my husband's workbench. :)

Here are my non-case lot deals, minus a Friday Freebie Reese's peanut butter cup, some vanilla extract and two bags of Babybel cheese (those items not pictured).

Here is my $10 bag from Kent's. Lots of bananas for us this time to fill up the bag because I have so much stuff left from last week's bag. I am probably going to be freezing banana bread this week.

According to my Smith's receipt, I got approximately $300 worth of product, but I used $16.20 in coupons and $147.95 in Fresh Value Savings, bringing my out of pocket cost down to $142.14! Even with case lot items that had no coupons attached to them, I still saved 51%! If you take the case lot items off, I am pretty sure my savings would have jumped to about 75% because the deals were so great and I had such wonderful coupons.

For example, every box of cereal in the picture cost me either $0.95 or $1.00. That is the same as going to the Tremonton Malt-O-Meal sale (probably next month) and stocking up on their cereal at $1 a bag... only better because I didn't have to get up at 5:00 AM and stand in line freezing for 2 hours to get my deals!

According to my receipt, I have saved $811.92 in Fresh Value Savings since the first of the year. Throw in my added coupon savings and I am sure I have passed $1,000 in savings and we still have 1/4 of the year left! WOOT! That more than pays for my newspaper subscriptions!

How did you do? I would love to hear? Post your deals on my Facebook wall and tag me!
